WELCOME
The charitable objects of the RSPCA are to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals.
The RSPCA Wigan, Leigh & District Branch covers a large area from Skelmersdale in the east to Atherton and Tyldesley in the west, from Standish in the north to Ashton and Golborne in the south. The branch is one of a network of around 175 branches throughout England and Wales. We are a separately registered charity working within the Rules, Policies and Guidelines of the national RSPCA. We are responsible for our own funding and for managing local animal welfare work.
The branch is run by a committee of trustees, all volunteers who are elected each year by branch members, and is supported by a branch manager who has been employed by the committee.
National Cruelty Helpline: 0300 1234 999
If you are concerned about an animal, please call this number first. This includes urgent cruelty complaints, such as abandonment, which should be phoned through immediately. Our local advice line (01942 824 165) is also available, though it may take one or two working days to deal with your report.
Please do not email us with complaints of cruelty and neglect as we are not able to deal with these. All such complaints, and requests for advice, must be phoned through to the RSPCA National Control Centre on 0300 1234 999. An inspector will then be asked to investigate. Thank you for your cooperation.
Any Vet will provide free treatment for a sick or injured wild animal or bird, including a pigeon. Not many people are aware of this service. However, if you are not able to transport the creature, and if you require assistance or further advice from the RSPCA when this Branch has no-one able to answer the phone, please phone our Emergency number, 0300 1234 999. Our Headquarters provides this service for urgent calls and cruelty reports 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Get ready for fireworks!!
Every year thousands of animals suffer as a result of the noise created by loud fireworks, especially on Bonfire Night and New Year’s Eve. This year we are trying to give out more advice on how to prepare your pet for fireworks season. (More about the Fireworks Campaign...)
How you can help our branch and we can help you
