About us
The RSPCA Wigan, Leigh & District branch exists to help make a difference to the welfare of animals in our local area.
In 2024 at our clinic we:
Treated a total of 3395 animals
Held 130 clinics
Neutered a total of 422 animals
Conducted 112 surgical procedures
How we are funded
Although we work closely with the National RSPCA, we are completely separate charities and therefore we must raise our own funds in order to continue to help local animals in the areas of Wigan, Leigh and parts of Skelmersdale with our Low Cost Animal Welfare Clinic.
Last year it cost over £15,000 a month to run the branch; we receive no government funding and rely on your donations and legacies to continue to help sick and injured local animals. To find out more, see our fundraising page.
What we do
We offer low cost welfare vet treatments for the pets of local people on benefits who would not otherwise be able to afford vet treatment for their pet cats and dogs. Our low cost vet clinic is the only lifeline for many local people and their pets as there is no other animal charity offering welfare vet treatment within our borough.
Our welfare vet clinic offers consultation and treatment, neutering*, vaccinations, microchipping, dentals, blood investigations and minor surgical procedures for dogs and cats. (* We are currently unable to offer bitch spays)
**Please note we are unable to contribute towards private vet fees.**
Our Branch also supports the RSPCA inspectorate by preventing escalation of animal welfare issues, accepting direct client referrals from the inspectorate, supporting compliance with inspectorate advice and direction and helping to prevent further suffering of sick and/or maltreated animals. The number of inspector referrals to our clinic continued to rise.
We continue to work closely with Cats Protection and other smaller charities to neuter cats.
You may be able to get help to have your cat neutered cheaper at our clinic. Please see the cats protection website or Andrea's Legacy.
Throughout the year our branch has a few rescued cats and kittens available for adoption, who are able to stay with our lovely fosterers until they find a home. For more information on rehoming visit our rehoming page.
Our ambition is to further the charity's aims and objectives, delivering and developing our welfare vet service to ensure we continue to make a real difference to the welfare of animals in our local area. We believe all animals deserve a good life and their welfare is at the heart of everything we do here at RSPCA Wigan, Leigh and District Branch.
