WELCOME
The charitable objects of the RSPCA are to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals.
The RSPCA Wigan, Leigh & District Branch covers a large area from Skelmersdale in the west to Atherton and Tyldesley in the east, from Standish in the north to Ashton and Golborne in the south. The branch is one of a network of around 171 branches throughout England and Wales. We are a separately registered charity working within the Rules, Policies and Guidelines of the national RSPCA. We are responsible for our own funding and for managing local animal welfare work.
The branch is run by a committee of trustees, all volunteers who are elected each year by branch members, and is supported by a branch manager who has been employed by the committee.
Conference facilities available for hire at our PAWS Centre
The Wigan, Leigh & District Branch has been helping local animals for many years. In 2010 we moved to our new premises in York Street, Wigan. We have a part-time animal clinic and advice centre, a small retail outlet and meeting rooms for hire with disabled access and w.c. on ground floor. There is also extensive, enclosed parking. For more details download the leaflet here. If interested please contact us.
PAWS centre opens its doors to animals
On 15th June 2010. The much anticipated rspca animal treatment clinic opened its doors for the first time to the sound of paws and claws as pets and their owners within the Branch area (pawed) through the doors to receive treatments. The rspca animal hospital chief vet David Yates is seen here with our first client Joanne Ashurst and her terrier cross named 'COOKIE'. Joanne was first over the threshold with 'COOKIE' for his annual Booster Vaccination. (Paws Clinic)
National Cruelty Helpline: 0300 1234 999
If you are concerned about an animal, please call this number first. This includes urgent cruelty complaints, such as abandonment, which should be phoned through immediately.
Please do not email us with complaints of cruelty and neglect as we are not able to deal with these. All such complaints, and requests for advice, must be phoned through to the RSPCA National Control Centre on 0300 1234 999. An inspector will then be asked to investigate. Thank you for your cooperation.
Any Vet will provide free treatment for a sick or injured wild animal or bird, including a pigeon. Not many people are aware of this service. However, if you are not able to transport the creature, and if you require assistance or further advice from the RSPCA when this Branch has no-one able to answer the phone, please phone our Emergency number, 0300 1234 999. Our Headquarters provides this service for urgent calls and cruelty reports 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Our local advice line
Our local advice line (01942 824 165) is also available, though it may take one or two working days to deal with your report.
